Effective today, Tuesday March 17, 2020, the City of Washington Police Department is changing their procedure in answering calls for the safety of the Police Department as well as the general public.

Emergency calls where an individual is in danger or life-threatening calls will continue to be answered by the officer responding to the scene.

Calls that are just reports will be handled by the phone. Complaints when calling 911, should request a return call from the City of Washington Police Department to file such a report. These reports will include any report that is not life-threatening or not an emergency. If an officer returns your call and they feel the complaint requires a physical response they will do so.

All police reports/verification letters will only be sent by e-mail or fax once payment is received.

Fingerprinting services will be suspended until further notice.

The City of Washington Police Department Building will be locked during normal business hours. If you have an emergency and must speak to an officer, please use the phone next to the Police Department garage door. We discourage anyone from coming to the police station except for an emergency.

Officers will continue to patrol and protect all residents and visitors to the City of Washington. Officers will not be permitted to shake hands and will be required to keep a six-foot distance when possible, in order to protect themselves as well as the public.

Respectfully

Chief Robert R. Wilson
