Michael Benedum operated his worldwide oil and gas business from corporate headquarters in Pittsburgh\, Pennsylvania. Michael and Sarah Benedum named the foundation in memory of their only child\, Claude Worthington Benedum\, who died in 1918 at age 20. In creating the foundation in 1944\, the Benedum expressed the wish that grant making be focused in West Virginia and Pittsburgh\, their native and adopted homes. The foundation has authorized grants totaling more than $410\,000\,000. \nAbout Wash Arts:\nThe Washington Community Arts and Cultural Center is the home of Wash Arts\, a community based arts program located in the heart of Washington PA. Founded in 2002\, Wash Arts has provided art\, music\, theater\, and literature to enhance the quality of life for many children in the Southwestern PA region for over 10 years. Their Mission: “All children should have the opportunity to explore the arts and to grow in ways that might never been imagined.” \nOffice of the Mayor:\nIn 2012\, the City of Washington adopted a Joint Multi-Municipal Comprehensive Plan. One of the recommendations in this plan was to turn vacant lots into public spaces. Through this great partnership we are able to implement the beautification of a vacant lot and convert it into a Cultural Art Park. The art will be designed by the youth in our Community.
