PRESS RELEASE
Statement from Mayor JoJo Burgess, City of Washington, Pennsylvania
I am issuing this statement to update the community on the ongoing
investigation into the shooting that occurred in the City of Washington this
past weekend.
Around 3:00 A.M. on Saturday October 11, 2025, a shooting took place in
the City of Washington that tragically claimed one life and left another
individual fighting for theirs.
Since the incident, numerous rumors and misinformation have been
circulating throughout the community. Unfortunately, this has led to acts of
vigilantism and other potential violence. Let me be clear — this type of
behavior will not be tolerated. Those who engage in such actions will be held
accountable to the fullest extent of the law.
After speaking with the victim’s family, we are united in asking the
community to stop any further acts of violence. The family wishes to grieve
their loss peacefully, and I echo that request. Violence does not bring justice.
The Washington City Police Department has been working tirelessly since
the incident. However, the investigation has been hindered by a lack of
cooperation. We know there are eyewitnesses who have critical information
that could help solve this case. We urge anyone with information to come
forward.
You can contact the Washington City Police Department directly at 724-223-
4226, or submit information anonymously through the tip line at 724-223-
4108.
Together, we can ensure justice is served and restore peace to our
community.
JoJo Burgess
Mayor
City of Washington, PA
